Man United on a pursuit for Thomas Vermaelen

Thomas has fallen in quality, before being a major threat in set-pieces and being solid in the centre back he has lost his touch. Man United being one of the teams interested in him looks like the most likely destination for the Belgium defender. Wenger said: "I cannot guarantee he will stay, but should he go I would bring another centre-back in for sure."  Meaning Wenger already looking for possible replacements in Matija Nastasic or Kostas Manolas both being young centre backs who show a lot of promise in the future. The departure for Vermaelen would benefit both the player and the team.
